Artist's Comments

Location:
Albergaria da Serra (Arouca, Portugal).

Gear:
Nikon D80 with 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5
Lee ND Grad 0.6 Soft
Lee ND Grad 0.9 Hard
Manfrotto 190XPROB & 488RC2
MC-DC1 Cable

Controls:
5 diferents exposures between 1 and 0,6 seconds; f/11; 18mm; ISO 100

Post-processing:
This is a panorama composed by 5 blended photos. I've used PTGUI 7.2 because it gave me better results than Photoshop's photomerge.
Then, I've opened the image in Photoshop CS3 and added some layers mask (levels, curves, hue/saturation, selective color).

This is my second entry for =Alex37's challenge [link]
This will also be my entry for *hougaard's contest [link]

A tree reflected in the sky by ~the-shining
Suggester writes: " This is such an epic capture I feel I cannot tear my eyes away. The setting on it's own is so tranquil and calming, but the vivid colors of the clouds add so much warmth and beauty to it." (Suggested by @Xerces and Featured by `SheTakesPics)

very nice job.

well i need a good tripod as well. I also would like to get the Manfrotto 190XPROB iam not sure yet, cuz iam quite tall 1,93m but even this i think the 190 would be the best. cuz it isnt so heavy.

to the composition i really like it, you could step a bit more backwards? (cuz the tree reflection almost hits the frame, it would have been nicer to have there more space, but i guess it wasnt possilbe to do so)

Last question:
Where did you focused? (just a question)

Considering that you're so tall, I would recommend you the Manfrotto 055XPROB. I think it would be more adequate... If possible, try to see both in a store :)
About the composition, as you said it was not possible to go backwards because I was in a small bridge and doing that would reveal it.
About the focus point, I let the camera do her job :D

thanks for the info. i saw the 055 in some shop it was a quite good offer, but i have hesitated and missed this offer. Because the higher price and the weight of it let me think and still think.
thanks for your opinion. :)

i just asked for the focus, cuz i will try next time to use the hyperfocal distance for focus. Iam curious if it is working with the kit lens. :)

regards!

A few months ago, I wanted to know more about hyperfocal distance. Even asked about it in the DA forums and it seems not very useful. But try it if you're interested :D

:iconeagleeye666666:
hehe yeah :) the question is just if it is giving you the better results or not. I have some bad experiences with letting the focus distance on infinity. the theory sound interesting, but i have doubts that it is workin properly with every lens.
I will give it a try, we will see. :)

what experience did you get?
:iconthe-shining:
Just readings :D

:iconeagleeye666666:
uhm, so i will have to give it a try :D
its a must, i will see how the results are looking. i have also doubts, but hej we will see. :)

see ya, thanks for the "chat" hehe ;)
